Leaving the Euro – French Edition.

by | May 14, 2010 | Economic Intrigue, Wasp likes these, Well I never.

Following on from yesterdays rumoured reintroduction of the Deutsche Mark, Bloomberg has an interesting bit of tittle-tattle on President Sarkozy of France threatening to withdraw France from the Euro if German Chancellor Angela Merkel would not agree to his Euro bailout fund last week :

May 14 (Bloomberg) — Aides to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero all denied a report that Sarkozy had threatened to pull out of the euro.

Sarkozy banged his fist on the table and threatened to quit the euro, which forced Merkel to cave in, Zapatero told the Spanish politicians, according to the El Pais account.

Whilst everyone was rushing out denials (anonymously in the case of the French spokesman), you can quite imagine Sarkozy trying a stunt like that being the devious, underhand little emperor that he is.

Finally, no post on Sarkozy is complete without the obligatory high heels, tiptoes and box pictures :
