BBC Waste

An article in the Telegraph today regarding the BBC case against Harper Collins proved to me that they do not give a flying fuck about the money they steal from every household in the land.

Apparently, for those who don’t give a hoot about the BBC, someone wanted to publish an autobiography in which they revealed themselves as “The Stig” which is some term for overpaid tosser who drives around wearing a disguise on the BBC program Top Gear. Top Gear itself is a BBC program presented by more overpaid tossers who spend their life inventing ways to piss away taxpayers money.

Anyway, it would appear that the poor old BBC have lost their case but seemingly, will carry on pissing our money away on court fees (emphasis mine) :

The BBC has lost a legal fight to stop publication of a book which reveals the identity of Top Gear’s driver The Stig.

The High Court in London refused to grant the BBC an injunction blocking the publication by HarperCollins of an autobiography of former Formula Three driver Ben Collins.

The BBC brought this action as we believe it is vital to protect the character of The Stig which ultimately belongs to the licence fee payer.

“Today’s judgement does not prevent the BBC from pursuing this matter to trial and the BBC will not be deterred from protecting such information from attack no matter when or by whom it should arise.”

What a bag of shite (to coin a local phrase).

I would suggest that most “licence fee payers” don’t really give a shit about The Stig, Top Gear or the BBC itself.

The other point which caught my eye in all this was the part where the court case was heard in private and we may not even get to hear the results of the judgement when we have all paid a little bit towards it :

Solicitor Robin Shaw said: “The judge has said he is not going to grant an injunction in this case. Reasons are to follow and will be given in a private judgement.”

If they feel they can hose money around like this then perhaps it is about time they scrapped the licence fee and made the BBC pay for itself. Perhaps then they would stop pissing money away like Gordon Brown just because their finding stream is generated through the force of law.

Unfortunately, its highly unlikely that this or any government will do anything about them as they just love having their own pet state broadcaster.
