Cycling in icy weather? Here’s how to do it.

by | Dec 16, 2010 | Health, Just plain weird, Wasp likes these, Well I never.

Are you a die hard cyclist or maybe just a cyclist with a death wish who wants to continue to use your iron horse in the snow and ice? Apart from the main problem of keeping your extremities from getting frostbite there is the minor issue of falling off in the snow and ice.

Well, The Dutch Bke company, in Seattle, have just the thing you need and, best of all, it costs very little.

The answer being tiewraps on the tyres as demonstrated in the following photos from their site :

And the results :

I can accelerate, brake, and corner with aplomb, even on the vile snowpack/sheet ice mix the plows leave in the bike lanes. The zip ties dig nicely into the hardest packed surfaces, but they’re thin enough not to bounce the bike around at low speed or on short pavement sections.

Seems quite a sensible solution even if cycling in the snow is anythign but sensible imo!
