Revellers celebrating the royal wedding over the four-day bank holiday should curb the amount of alcohol they drink, ambulance officials said.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is concerned that any excessive drunkenness or alcohol-fuelled injuries will divert crews from serious cases.

Officials said heavy drinking could lead to a rise in assaults on crews, more home violence and accidents.

And they said the weekend should be remembered “for the right reasons”.

Paul Mudd, Assistant Director of A&E Operations in Hull and the East Riding, said: “The associated risks of heavy drinking can also lead to a rise in assaults, including those against ambulance staff, and incidents of domestic violence which also cause problems for our staff.”
