Remember The Independent’s “snow will be a thing of the past by 2010”? Well, here is a warmist’s prediction that global warming will more than compensate for a mini Ice Age.

December 8th 2010 – no snow here – move along now

Remember the Independent article from 2000 predicting that UK winter snowfalls would be a thing of the past within ten years?

Well, here is a quote from another warmist regarding the possible arrival of a mini Ice Age caused by a predicted drop in solar activity :

But Joanna Haigh professor of atmospheric physics at Imperial College London, said global warming could override any cooling effect on the Earth’s climate.

She said: “This work suggests that the sun’s activity might be entering a longer period of change – a Grand Minimum, similar to that of the late 17th century.”

During that time temperatures in north west Europe were about 1C lower than normal, and about 0.5C lower averaged globally.

However, she cautioned: “Even if the predictions are correct, the effect of global warming will outstrip the sun’s ability to cool even in the coldest scenario.

“And in any case, the cooling effect is only ever temporary. When the sun’s activity returns to normal, the greenhouse gases won’t have gone away.”

Aside from confusing the suns lack of ability to provide adequate warmth with an ability to cool (a new phenomenon she must have dreamed up this morning in preparation for her interview) I am amazed a the sheer brass neck of these people who will just not give up on their warming religion.

I wonder just how many people will end up dying needlessly as a sacrifice to the great warming sky pixie before even ust one of these warming loons admits they fucked up? I may have to start wondering if that wasn’t actually the whole idea in the first place but that is just a little too much liek tin foil hat territory for me.

The last paragraph of the quote is the best though – to hell with a few decades of freezing our bits off (or not if you believe her) we still have to do something about the warming and now is the best time to press ahead while we have a temporary reprieve.

The longer this debate goes on, the more they sound to me like the end of the world preachers who keep telling their poor confused followers that “I made a miscalculation and the World will actually now end in October so keep believing and keep giving me all your money”.

Anyway, in a few winters time when you are freezing your bits off and watching the old dear next door being carted away feet first just remember the name of Joanna Haigh so you can remind her of her warming predictions.
